There’s nothing like a life/death situation, to motivate us to look beyond what we think we know.
At 19 days old, our beautiful baby girl contracted Septicaemia (potentially fatal, bacteria in the bloodstream); a very traumatic time for us all. She received large doses of medicines which saved her life but this weakened her body and on Christmas Eve 1999, she was again rushed to hospital with severe breathing difficulties.
Over the next 18 months her health was up and down and so feeling helpless, we looked for a solution in the area of natural health. There were so many therapies but Jin Shin Jyutsu really resonated with us. It seemed so simple and effective. We found a local practitioner (UK) and after four sessions utilizing this unique ‘acupressure’ technique, our little girl emerged from her ‘cocoon’…it was truly remarkable! I received sessions for myself after that but was not in that state of awareness to find out more at that time.
Leaving the UK, and everything we knew, was hugely emotional. To top it all, my husband contracted shingles and all three girls got chickenpox!
Life settled down, the girls enjoying in their new school and Tony in a new job but I was exhausted and began suffering daily pain. Unsurprisingly, I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue. With advice from the GP, it seemed my only option was to go on medication. Long term medication did not appeal to me so I started exploring natural health options again, remembering how my daughter had been helped, and was amazed to find a Jin Shin Jyutsu (JSJ) practitioner here too. Receiving weekly treatments and religiously practicing self help at home, I was dedicated to improving my health so it was only a matter time before I felt connected to myself again. How could something so simple, be so powerful?! Not only were physical symptoms disappearing but daily practice was facilitating a significant change.
A new perspective opened up and for the first time since arriving in NZ, I felt a renewed sense of purpose and motivation. This time I WAS paying attention and so without hesitation, I signed up for my first seminar in Auckland…the journey was just beginning.
I never looked back since taking that first JSJ class 11 years ago. I have attended many others around the world since then and studied with many wonderful instructors and friends. In addition to Jin Shin Jyutsu, my expanded awareness and practice includes Reiki, Qigong, EFT, meditation, muscle testing, nutrition as well as intuitive and vibrational energy healing. I am also a certified JSJ Self-Help class tutor and international seminar organizer.
I never fully appreciated where this would take me, or how it would shape my life, and the lives of those around me, but I do know that I am truly blessed to have Jin Shin Jyutsu in my life.
